Chonda Pierce

On September 26, RIFA will be welcoming the Emmy-nominated and best-selling comedian Chonda Pierce to the Carl Perkins Civic Center to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Canstruction. Over the past two decades, Chonda has been winning crowds over through her combination of fierce wit and southern charm, and we know she will leave us with a night to remember.

Before becoming a comedian, Chonda first got her start right down I-40 in Nashville at the Opryland Theme Park as a Minnie Pearl performer and later as an impersonator. Since then, she has taken her love of humor and connecting with people through stories to become RIAA’s best-selling female comedian.

Throughout her career, she was released numerous albums, performed at countless venues, and released three documentaries. Her latest, titled Unashamed, highlights people who boldly stand up for their faith. Previous to this one, a docu-comedy titled Laughing in the Dark, follows Chonda as she takes the audience on an emotional roller-coaster ride descending to the depths of dark despair and rising to the heights of victory propelled by laughter, perseverance and faith. Only Chonda would have the courage to be this honest and transparent as she entertains and helps us all move forward in life, relationships and love.

As someone who has walked through pain and suffering, Chonda Pierce has used her success to help others, and in 2006 founded Branches Recovery Center, which offers counseling and treatment to those with depression, anxiety, addiction, regardless of their ability to pay.

The way Chonda weaves through life with a sense of humor makes her relatable to each of us and allows us to connect with her and with one another. Whether it is in the valleys or the peaks of her life, Chonda has been able to draw some good from it and because of that, RIFA is excited to welcome the Jackson community to come share some laughs.
