Soup Kitchen

SK Sidebar 2014 Soup KitchenThe RIFA Soup Kitchen provides hot, nutritious meals 365 days a year, including all holidays. There is no charge for the meals, and no one is turned away. There are many who get their only hot meal of the day in the Soup Kitchen. We serve, on average, 150 meals daily.

Lunch is served seven days every week and dinner on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Worship and Bible study takes place in conjunction with each meal.

With only one full-time RIFA staff member, the Soup Kitchen relies on more than 1,000 volunteers annually from local churches, service organizations and individuals to carry out the meal planning, preparation and serving. In addition, all of the food served in the Soup Kitchen is donated from area restaurants, businesses, churches, civic groups and individuals. More than 65,000 pounds of food is donated each year to the feed the hungry in our community.

Three ways to get involved:

1. Get your church, civic group or business to volunteer. A minimum of five volunteers are needed to serve, but more are always welcome. If your group would like to participate, please call our volunteer coordinator at 731.427.7963 to set a date.

2. Feeding the Multitudes. Churches, businesses, civic groups and individuals can participate by donating needed items that are used daily in the Soup Kitchen.

3. Just Desserts. Volunteers commit to provide desserts for the Soup Kitchen on a specific day of the month for a year. Churches, businesses, civic groups and individuals can bring homemade sweets and fresh fruits for the Soup Kitchen to be used for dessert.
